PantryPal is a kitchen and shopping assistant for iOS and Android. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, who processes it, and how you can delete it.
| Data | Purpose | Where it is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Email address, password (hashed), display name | Creating and signing in to your account, password reset | Google Firebase Authentication (Google Cloud, United States) |
| Pantry items, expiry dates, shopping list, "used / thrown away" history, household name and members | Providing the core features; sharing with the household members you invite | Google Cloud Firestore |
| Photos you choose to scan | Recognising ingredients with AI | Sent to Anthropic's Claude API through our server and not stored by PantryPal or on our server after the response is returned |
| Ingredient names you type or scan | Generating recipes and category suggestions with AI | Sent to Anthropic's Claude API through our server; not stored beyond the request |
| Subscription status (product, expiry, Apple original transaction identifier) | Unlocking Pro / Family features; handling renewals and refunds | Google Cloud Firestore; verified through Apple's App Store Server API |
| Daily AI usage counters and monthly aggregate token counts | Enforcing fair-use limits and controlling costs | Google Cloud Firestore |
| Language and notification preferences | Localisation, local expiry reminders | Only on your device |
We do not collect precise location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or health data, and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
If you join a household, the pantry, shopping list and waste history of that household are visible to all its members, and the household owner can see your display name and control whether you may use AI features or edit items. Leaving the household removes your access.
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Edit Profile → Delete my account. This immediately and permanently deletes your profile, your household data (if you are its only member), your subscription link and your sign-in credentials. Aggregate, non-personal usage statistics may be retained. Subscriptions themselves are managed and cancelled through your Apple ID settings.
PantryPal is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country) and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA under the GDPR and California under the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. Most of this you can do directly in the app; for anything else, contact us.
We will post updates to this page and change the effective date above. Material changes will be announced in the app.
